The Tele-Fonika Z-XOTKtsd 288J fiber optic cable uses a multi-tube design, with loose tubes arranged around a central FRP (fiber-reinforced plastic) strength member. This version has 24 active tubes, each containing 12 optical fibers, giving a total of 288 fibers – hence the designation 24x12.
Mini-tubes with a 1.8 mm diameter are used instead of standard 2.4 mm tubes, which reduces the overall cable diameter. This translates into lower weight and about 30% smaller minimum bending radius. Although mechanically weaker in tensile strength compared to the 2.4 mm version, the reduced weight compensates for this, making the cable easier to transport, install, and especially to blow into microducts.
A key feature of this design is its compact outer diameter, which reduces the occupied space in telecom ducts, lowering installation costs (e.g. in Orange networks).
The 9/125 μm G.652D single-mode fibers provide excellent transmission parameters – minimal dispersion and low attenuation. This makes them suitable for long-haul links and, thanks to standardization, they are now used in over 90% of new fiber installations, including short connections (<0.5 km).
Tele-Fonika uses top-quality optical fibers from Sumitomo (Japan) or Corning (USA). By default, the Z-XOTKtsd 288J is equipped with G.652D fibers, but on request it can be supplied with other types such as G.657.A2 or even multimode fibers.
The cable is fully resistant to environmental conditions: UV radiation, temperature fluctuations, and moisture. Being completely dielectric, it can be safely installed near power lines of any voltage.
