GPON, which stands for Gigabit Passive Optical Network, is gaining increasing recognition in Poland for its ability to provide fast and secure internet connections. The implementation of this technology is efficient, and it is considered a solution with tremendous potential for various applications. GPON networks offer significant advantages over other solutions, making them a preferred choice.

The GPON terminal plays a crucial role in connecting the optical distribution network. With just one fiber, it can connect up to 128 terminals with each interface, providing extensive possibilities for the future. The use of advanced solutions enables operators to build more stable and damage-resistant "last-mile" networks. Leading manufacturers of GPON terminals include Huawei, Zte, Halny, and Dasan.

GPON routers are integral to the GPON network, where GPON stands for Gigabit Passive Optical Network. GPON is the latest variant of the passive optical network (PON) and has replaced its predecessor in popularity. GPON routers are essential for achieving better performance, offering speeds of up to 2488 Mb/s from OLT to ONT and approximately 1244 Mb/s from ONT to OLT. These networks can be deployed in various scenarios, such as fiber-to-the-home, fiber-to-the-building, or in office buildings and their immediate surroundings. GPON is considered a fully passive system, requiring only active GPON OLT at the operator's end and GPON ONT at the user's end.

The future of modern GPON networks looks promising, allowing multiple connections through a single fiber optic cable. The choice between SC/APC (Angled Physical Contact) or SC/UPC (Ultra Physical Contact) connectors depends on the specific requirements. APC is recommended for fiber optic transmission systems with capacities above 600 Mb/s, while UPC can be chosen for simplicity and cost-effectiveness.

Operators need to ensure the proper installation of splitters to distribute the signal among all users. The functionality of GPON extends beyond internet connectivity, as it can also deliver services such as television and telephone through GPON routers. This makes GPON a versatile and future-proof solution for various communication needs.
