The Telefonia Z-XOTKtsd 48J optical fiber cable features a multi-tube construction, where loose tubes wrap around a central FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) strength member made of glass fiber. In this specific case, there are four active tubes, each containing 12 optical fibers, hence the designation 4x12. The remaining tubes serve as cable fillers.
The optical fiber has a minitube with a diameter of 1.8 mm. Compared to a classic tube with a diameter of 2.4 mm, the outer diameter of the cable has been reduced, which has a positive impact on parameters such as minimum bending radius (reduced by 30%) and cable mass. Although the cable is half as weak in tensile strength as the version with a classic tube, the almost double reduction in mass balances this fact. An additional advantage of the low mass is the simplification of logistics, especially in laying or blowing the lightweight cable.
A distinguishing feature of this type of cable is its relatively small diameter for a multi-tube cable, which can positively affect the reduction of costs related to the occupancy of telecommunication ducts.
