All fibers of Corning's SMF-28 Ultra fiber ITU-T G652D/G657A1 cable are color-coded according to the IEC 60304 standard. The tube contains up to 24 optical fibers and is filled with hydrophobic gel to protect the fibers from moisture and vibrations. For additional structural strength, two FRP rods are embedded in the outer HDPE layer of the cable.
