Patchcords RJ-45

Patchcords RJ-45 - What are they and what are their types?

RJ-45 patch cords are short cables terminated with RJ-45 connectors used for connecting devices in computer networks. They are essential components for the proper and stable operation of a network, ensuring fast and reliable data flow. Depending on the purpose and network requirements, various types of RJ-45 patch cords are available, such as Category 5E, 6, or 7.

Throughput and Shielding of RJ-45 Patch Cords

The throughput of RJ-45 patch cords primarily depends on the cable category. Standard Category 5E provides throughput up to 1000 Mb/s (1 Gb/s), Category 6 - up to 10 Gb/s, and Category 7 - up to 40 Gb/s. However, it's worth noting that the network throughput is always limited by the weakest link, such as the oldest switch in the network. Shielding in RJ-45 patch cords provides greater resistance to electromagnetic interference, resulting in better data transmission quality. RJ-45 patch cords can be unshielded (UTP), shielded (FTP), shielded with enhanced shielding (SFTP), or shielded with additional internal shielding (PiMF).

Applications of RJ-45 Patch Cords

RJ-45 patch cords are used in practically every computer network. They find applications in home computer networks, offices, schools, as well as in larger data center networks or industrial networks. Their main purpose is to connect devices such as computers, routers, switches, or servers, enabling the flow of data between them.

How to Choose the Right RJ-45 Patch Cords

When choosing RJ-45 patch cords, attention should be paid to the cable category and its length, which should be tailored to the network's needs. It is also important to select the appropriate shielding, taking into account the conditions in which the cables will operate. For networks with high requirements, such as in data centers, it is recommended to use shielded patch cords to minimize the risk of electromagnetic interference.
